Valencia have filed a lawsuit against the creators of the documentary about Vinicius Junior.
On May 15, Netflix released the film Dance, Vini!, which tells the Real Madrid winger’s story of success and the challenges he has faced.
One of the key issues shown is Vinicius’ fight against racism and abuse from fans in Spain. In particular, the film depicts the 2023 La Liga away match against Valencia, where the Brazilian was targeted with insults from the stands. In one scene, supporters at Mestalla can be heard chanting “tonto” (“idiot”), but the subtitles instead display “mono” (“monkey”).
According to As, Valencia filed a claim in the city’s court of first instance against Netflix and production company Conspiracao Filmes. The club seeks financial compensation for an “attack on honor.” In addition, Valencia have demanded that the “rigged” and “false” subtitles be corrected in several segments of the film, and that a note about the court proceedings be included after the case is reviewed.
