Sir Jim Ratcliffe has broken his silence amid speculation that Erik ten Hag could be sacked as Manchester United manager, but the club’s co-owner claims that it isn’t his decision to make.

Erik ten Hag has been given no assurances his job at Manchester United is safe – after co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe said the manager’s future is not his call.

Asked if he has faith in Ten Hag, Ratcliffe said: “I don’t want to answer that question…I like Erik. I think he’s a very good coach but at the end of the day it’s not my call, it’s the management team that’s running Manchester United that have to decide how we best run the team in many different respects.

Ten Hag wasn’t focussed on his future after the final whistle in Portugal, urging fans and pundits not to judge United yet.

”Don’t judge us in this moment,” he said. ”I judge us at the end of the season. We are in the process. Just wait. We have to develop this team. We will work and continue. We will fight.”
