Raphael Varane confirms next job immediately after retirement

Raphael Varane will continue to work at Como FC despite his retirement from football.

The 31-year-old, who only left Manchester United at the end of June, called time on his playing days on Wednesday morning. In an emotional statement, Varane confirmed that he would be hanging up his boots after just one brief outing for newly promoted Serie A side Como.

“They say all good things must come to an end”, he wrote on Instagram. “In my career I have taken on many challenges, rose to occasion after occasion, almost all of it was supposed to be impossible.

“Incredible emotions, special moments and memories that will last a lifetime. Reflecting on these moments, it is with immense pride and a feeling of fulfillment that I am announcing my retirement from the game that we all love.”

Now, with Como attracting a host of high-profile players due to their investment and location, Varane is set to stay on in a non-playing role. Although just what this is has not yet been established, the former Real Madrid titan did nod to it in his emotional farewell from the game.
